Building a Rental Home

 

I'm very excited to be starting this project with my dad. We're building a detached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) adjacent to my parent's home in Los Angeles. The city allows building a 950 sqft home as long as the combined main home and ADU does not exceed 50% of the property square footage. The main home is 2,000 sqft and the property lot which is counted using the home property line is a little under 10,000 sqft. The garage sqft does not count as part of the livable square footage area.

I'll be adding more info here on my experience building an ADU and working with the city, architect, and general contractor.
